Monkeypox

Mpox is caused by the monkeypox virus (MPXV).

It is an enveloped double-stranded DNA virus of the Orthopoxvirus genus in the Poxviridae family, which includes variola, cowpox, vaccinia and other viruses.

Two distinct clades of the virus:

Clade I (with subclades Ia and Ib)

Clade II (with subclades IIa and IIb)

Routes of Transmission

Routes of transmission include respiratory droplets via prolonged face-to-face or intimate physical contact, direct contact with infectious lesions or other bodily fluids, and fomites via contact with clothing or linens contaminated with lesion crusts or bodily fluids. Maternal-fetal transmission can occur via the placenta.

Symptoms

The most common symptomatic skin rash can be found on the face and extremities. which can last 2–4 weeks accompanied by fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy and swollen lymph nodes. The incubation period can range from 1 to 2 weeks, up to 3 weeks.

Our Test

Mpox testing is done using a laboratory-based technique called polymerase chain reaction (PCR).

The Monkeypox Virus Test Kit utilizes the gold standard qPCR assay

for direct detection of monkeypox DNA.

● Sample types: Rash fluid, pustular fluid, blister fluid, serum, nasopharyngeal swab and oropharyngeal swab specimens.

● Detection Channels: FAM, HEX and ROX detection channels.

● Repeatability: CV ≤5%.

● The limit of detection for the kit is: 200 copies/mL
